Navicular bursitis in animals, particularly in horses, refers to the inflammation of the navicular bursa, a small fluid-filled sac located between the navicular bone (in the hoof) and the deep digital flexor tendon. This bursa's function is to reduce friction as the tendon passes over the navicular bone. When inflamed, the bursa can cause pain and lameness in the animal, particularly in the forelimbs.
