BLV is a retrovirus that infects cattle and can lead to a condition known as enzootic bovine leukosis. BLV primarily affects the cow's immune system by targeting B lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell), causing them to proliferate abnormally. In many cases, cattle infected with BLV remain asymptomatic, but a small percentage may develop lymphosarcoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.
